Castle Valley Academy Mission Trip 2022
Written by Miriam Popovski
Shock and disbelief flushed over us as a “Stop Work” order in bright red ink was delivered. What were we to do when we were only at best halfway through with our mission? The Build and Restore International volunteers came to give their time at Castle Valley Academy in Utah from June 26 - July 17, 2022, but now with a “Stop Work” order from the county it all came to a stand still.
Castle Valley Academy exists to train young people to become thinkers, not merely reflectors of other men's thoughts. Build and Restore International’s mission aligns with this vision, and therefore accepted the invitation to help completely restore the boys’ dorm. Volunteers helped in a variety of ways - from demolition, painting and landscaping to putting in new windows and helping replace flooring. We knew the work at Castle Valley Academy must continue so we got together and we appealed to the One who holds the future. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10.
The next morning at the building inspector’s office Craig Cleveland, the president of Castle Valley Academy, prayed for wisdom and the most amazing miracle happened. God arranged it so that the general contractor present was very familiar with Castle Valley Academy. You see, he grew up right next to the academy and had beautiful memories of swimming and fishing at the school's pond. He voluntarily announced he would cover the school and not charge them a penny. He said, “All of you at Castle Valley Academy are working for God and I also want to do something for God.”
With that miracle came others, as God arranged all the details. The work was able to continue and we successfully accomplished our mission. Fifty-eight volunteers throughout the three weeks not only helped restore the boys’ dorm, but also learned skills they can use in their own churches and communities. With God’s blessings the volunteers also enjoyed the beautiful nature surrounding Castle Valley Academy while participating in rafting, horse riding, zip lining, swimming and much more. “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.
