Mission Report: A Pastor, A Pair of Glasses, and a Life-Changing Message. Costa Rica 2025

When the Lord moves in our lives, it’s impossible to stay silent. We feel compelled to share the powerful testimony from our Costa Rica 2025 Mission Project, where Build and Restore International witnessed God working in both visible and unexpected ways.

This mission brought together two dedicated teams. The first group focused on heavy construction work to help launch a new lifestyle center offering hydrotherapy and massage therapy. In the evenings, they visited homes to provide basic health screenings, checking blood pressure, glucose levels, and distributing reading glasses.

The second group built upon that foundation. They hosted free community clinics, followed each evening by an evangelistic series. These programs were held at a local elementary school—a provision made possible by what we can only describe as a miracle.

One evening during the evangelistic meetings, a man approached one of our team members with what seemed like a simple request: to exchange a pair of reading glasses that didn’t fit properly. But this small moment unfolded into something far more profound.

As they spoke, the man’s excitement was unmistakable. He had just heard the evening’s Bible message and was deeply moved.

“This needs to be preached in every church,” he said. “Spirits will be appearing more and more to deceive people. We need to know the truth, that the dead are really dead.”

As the conversation continued, the team member realised: this wasn’t just any attendee. This man was the pastor of the local Pentecostal church, a church the first group had visited earlier to offer health screenings and wellness education. Because of the warm and practical care shown by the first group, the pastor had been open to the second group’s invitation. Not only did he attend the evangelistic meetings, but he brought his entire congregation with him.

This moment stood as a powerful reminder of the effectiveness of the health message as the “opening wedge”- breaking down barriers and opening hearts to receive the gospel. The two mission groups, though focused on different tasks, had worked in perfect harmony. And through their efforts, God made a way for truth to enter not just a building, but an entire community of believers.

"As we work together for Him, God does amazing things."
