Mazumiapan Mexico Mission Trip 2011
A call came from a dear friend of mine about an opportunity to serve as a missionary in the far region of Veracruz, Mexico in a small village called Mazumiapan. I lifted this request up in prayer before the Lord and waited for confirmation from the Lord. I began asking questions about the mission trip and the different projects that we would do while there. It was my desire to go and serve in foreign mission field. Through a series of events, the Lord showed me that it was well for me to go on this mission trip. I continued to pray that I may find a low fare and that the Lord would take care of all the details. We began fundraising to cover the cost of building materials and supplies. A few more volunteers signed up to join our team. We were now ready to go.
Upon our arrival in Mazumiapan, we settled down on the far side of town where a few small homes were rented for our stay. The homes were simple with open windows and a dirt floor. Yet, we received great warmth and hospitality from our host family. The following day we began working on the church building project. We had plans to build classrooms and a church office. The existing building needed to be finished as well. An Adventist church had recently been built prior to us coming, yet it was not fully completed. Each day the Lord blessed our efforts and our building efforts were increased.
The Evangelistic series began in the evenings with a 15 minute health presentation. People were coming to hear the word of God and to improve their overall health. I remember one older man was coming to scope out the evening program but didn’t come inside or stay for the entire program. He was not interested in what we had to sta. Just curious to see what was happening in his town. Yet, we noticed him and decided to visit him at his home. We developed a friendship and the Lord bless our time together. Soon after he was the first person to come and help us in the morning with construction. He was such a big help for us. Today, he is an active member of our church and continues to help serve those in his community and supports the Adventist church. We know that the Lord has power to work on the hearts and minds of people who are open to His calling. We rejoice in seeing him with us taking part in the church service and singing hymnals of praise to our God.
As I look back, I see how the Lord blessed our efforts and gave us the strength to do His work. To be His hands and feet. We felt His unmeasurable grace and mercy as we labored together to share the Gospel with the people of Mazumiapan. The great commission is to go forward and to spread the Love of God with a hurting and dying world for He has called us to do so. “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:18-20 it’s my desire that by God’s grace, we can continue to Build and Restore the lives of men, women, and children, that the love of God may be revealed in us and our actions! Maranatha!
