Honduras Mission Trip

Matthew 9:27-31 reads, “And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” And their eyes were opened.”

A group of 9 volunteers ministered in Honduras October 1-10. Upon arrival, as the suitcases were being admitted into Honduras, the inspectors noticed we had over 600 reading glasses. Assuming they were being brought into the country for resale they proceeded to explain we would need to pay an importation fee. We tried to explain that we would be donating them to those who needed them most. The customs patrol informed us that in order to bring in such large amounts of donations we needed to have asked for permission nine months prior to entering the country.

We gathered together as a group and prayed asking God to intervene. After many hours and $40 less they allowed us to bring in the reading glasses, toothbrushes, and other materials we had for helping the local people of the village we would be ministering to.

During the day, we helped construct public bathrooms for the lifestyle center VIDA, and in the evening we held a VBS for the local children. On the third night we decided to start distributing the reading glasses and to do glucose and blood pressure checks. To our amazement more than 400 adults showed up needing reading glasses. We tested each one and then handed them the appropriate reading glasses, and then retested them. The joy and emotion shared as they were able to read gave us a small glimpse of the work of Jesus on this earth, such as when he healed the blind. One man in particular brought his Bible with him, because he wanted to make sure that after he received reading glasses he would be able to read his Bible.

We thank you for being part of this work to further the gospel!

“And this gospel shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then show the end come.”
